``There are over 10,000 spiders per square acre of land in North America. Fortunately for us most are to small to hurt humans``

My daughter heard a stat (and has obsessed over it since) that you're never more than 6 inches away from a spider of some sort.

`Now...that is creepy...and makes `one` think and look at...sheets...bed...under the bed...when I was a kid...I got bit by a spider (on the cheek) (nasty) while I was asleep in bed.....Never forgot...

Here's a tidbit. In my occupation, I come into contact with black widow spiders fairly frequently. I was taught, when you see a spider crawling on you, to never slap and smash it. It drives the fangs into you, envenoming you. Simply 'flick' it off of you. That being said, I have been bitten about a half dozen times by black widows. (Peter Parker I am not...)

Most spider bites occur when you roll over on them, or trap them against your body. Conversely, a spider may crawl across your whole body and depart, if undetected, without a bite. Just sayin'

I had a few nasty, angry spider bites a few years back after a long day of making blanket forts and playing on the floor with my kiddo. Yucky stuff. [pardon my french]

Thanks, Inactive. Now I have the thought of a spider crawling across my whole body. Double yuck!

My bad! LOL!

Don't you folks have the Brown Recluse (Fiddle Back) down in your neck of the woods? That's one bite that's nasty. We don't have them here on the west coast. Now, that's ucky-yay! (Pardon my Pig-latin)

A brown recluse bites and it's venom causes the skin to die. The wound 'necrifies' from the inside out, with the flesh dying. It leaves disfiguring scars that require surgery to close. Quite pleasant!
