Ted Cruz, a tea-party favorite who has never held elected office, won a closely watched Republican primary runoff for Senate in Texas -- a race that could define the conservative tilt of the chamber.
Cruz beat establishment backed Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a test of tea party-strength in Texas, which is expected to send a GOP senator to Washington in fall.
