'Mormon Moment' Forcing Christians to Learn About Mormonism

With Mitt Romney now the first Mormon presidential nominee of a major party, America has reached what many are calling the "Mormon moment." That reality is forcing Christian leaders to get a better grasp of a religion that few understand.

"We're in a 'Mormon moment' so it requires helpful thinking and a clear understanding of Mormonism," said Ed Stetzer, president of LifeWay Research. "More people have been talking about Mormonism in the last six months than in the entirety of my life."

"They want to present themselves with the best light," Davis observed, "because of the history – people have a notion that Mormonism is strange."

I possess a Doctorate in Divinity and have hundreds of friends from all faiths, including the Mormon faith. My father was Mormon and my brother is Mormon. I have participated as a speaker at Mormon services. They are ALL fine people. Matthew 7:1, "Judge not that ye be not judged."

'They are ALL fine people'

They are fine people. Mainline Christian denominations would be smart to adopt the familial attitudes the Mormon church engages in. The attitude of self sufficiency, and the practice of storing a years worth of food and supplies for a rainy day.

Their church doctrine, written by a common man named Joseph Smith, who is thought to be a prophet, is but a pseudo-christian doctrine.

I lived in Idaho Falls for almost two years, That town lies just south of Rexburg. Rexburg is the home of Ricks College, a private, two-year accredited college owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rexburg is an agricultural community with a heavy Mormon population.

I was a gentile living among the Mormons. While they always treated me with respect, I can tell you from personal experience, I always felt like an outsider in that area.

I don't know if the word I am about to use to describe Mormons is the correct one, but I found them to be 'cliquish'.
