We call it the “4th of July,” but all countries have a 4th of July. In the United States of America, it’s Independence Day—the day our forefathers declared their separation from Great Britain.
During the years that followed, other historical happenings took place on that most sacred of American holidays. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers who helped write the Declaration of Independence, died on the 50th anniversary of its signing.
On July 4, 1959, America unfurled the new 49-star flag honoring Alaska’s admission to the Union on January 3, 1959. That flag lasted only a year. The following Independence Day brought forth another new flag. Hawaii had been admitted as the 50th state on August 21, 1959.
To all those who are a part of the Politicollision community, have a Happy and Safe Independence Day.
