Computer Model Says 49ers Over Ravens In Super Bowl XLVII

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Super Bowl XLVII will only be played once, and it will be on the field in New Orleans. But with two weeks to fill in between the championship games and the Super Bowl, there’s some time to run some numbers.

PredictionMachine.com, a website that predicts the outcome of sporting events based on computer models, ran more than just “some” numbers. They ran Sunday’s 49ers vs. Ravens match-up through their system 50,000 times to see what the most likely outcome of the game will be.

The 49ers won the game 66.9% of the time, and scored an average of seven points more than the Ravens in the simulations (28.6 to 21.3), with San Francisco outgaining the Ravens by an average of 85 yards per game.

Ray Lewis doesn’t wish to discuss deer-antler spray or double murders at media day

In the SI story, Lewis was asked about his involvement with S.W.A.T.S.

"Nobody helped me out with the rehab," Lewis told the magazine. "I've been doing S.W.A.T.S. for a couple years through Hue Jackson, that's it. That's my only connection to them."

Yahoo! Sports reported two years ago that the NFL told Jackson, who was then coach of the Oakland Raiders, to sever ties with the company because it marketed products that contained the banned IGF-1.

The SI story said Ross videotaped a phone call with Lewis just after he tore his triceps on Oct. 14. Here is a passage from SI's story regarding that phone call:

Ross prescribed a deluxe program, including holographic stickers on the right elbow; copious quantities of the powder additive; sleeping in front of a beam-ray light programmed with frequencies for tissue regeneration and pain relief; drinking negatively charged water; a 10-per-day regimen of the deer-antler pills that will "rebuild your brain via your small intestines" (and which Lewis said he hadn't been taking, then swallowed four during the conversation); and spritzes of deer-antler velvet extract (the Ultimate Spray) every two hours.

"Spray on my elbow every two hours?" Lewis asked.

"No," Ross said, "under your tongue."

Toward the end of the talk, Lewis asked Ross to "just pile me up and just send me everything you got, because I got to get back on this this week."

That's not the only controversy Lewis was asked about at media day. He was also asked about the January 2000 stabbings in Atlanta that left two people dead, in which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction of justice and has been a popular topic again with his return to the Super Bowl.

Most guys like to see a girl break into a big, bright smile. But, some have a harder time coaxing a grin out of a girl than others. Way to go Mort. ;-)

Here is the list of Ravens and their illegal "accomplishments" since 2000, from 2007 to the big beginning, which most of you can already figure out. Mind you, this is a list of players that were arrested, and not necessarily convicted.

12/29/07: Gerome Sapp (DB): Misdemeanor assault outside bar, ironically filed by former Raven longsnapper Joe Maese. Charges were dropped after Maese refused to testify.

5/10/07: Steve McNair (QB): McNair was a passenger but the owner of a vehicle being driven by a drunk friend.

8/15/05: BJ Sams (KR/PR): DUI (for the second time in 14 months).

4/20/04: Corey Fuller (DB): Gambling and gun charges for holding a high stakes poker game at his home.

2/25/04: Jamal Lewis (RB): Federal charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine w/ the intent to distribute.

8/18/03: Chris McAlister (DB): DUI

3/9/03: Terrell Suggs (DE): Felony aggrevated assault in Phoenix (charges dropped).

9/4/01: Cornell Brown (LB): Possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

6/15/01: Chris McAlister (CB): In Las Vegas' airpost, he was charged with a misdemeanor of disturbing the peace after getting into an argument with a flight attendant over seating arrangements. (Rexx's Note: Beginning to see a trend here?)

5/4/01: Leon Searcy (OL): Charged w/ domestic violence.

5/20/00: Chris MCAlister (DB): Possession of marijuana (charges dropped). (Rexx's Note: Anybody still miss him?)

...and the biggest and baddest one is.....

1/31/00: Ray Lewis (LB): Initially charged with muder, felony murder and aggrevated assault in the deaths of two men the night of the Super Bowl in Atlanta. Pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and paid a $250,000 NFL fine.

As the Baltimore Ravens gear up to take on the San Francisco 49ers in this year's Super Bowl, there is one team veteran who will not be making the trip to New Orleans.

Ravens cheerleader Courtney Lenz, 23, of Baltimore, Md., is a five-year veteran of the cheer squad, but she did not receive an invitation to attend the biggest game of her career.

Now fans have taken to the internet, launching an online petition to push the Ravens to let Lenz cheer at the Super Bowl.

"I wouldn't even have reached out and let fans know if I didn't think it was clearly wrong," Lenz told ABCNews.com. "I'm just devastated by the whole situation. This was very unexpected… I didn't even think there would be a chance of me not going with being a five-year veteran."

The news came shortly after Lenz announced her planned retirement at the Ravens' last home game against the Colts.

Lenz began cheering for the Ravens when she was a freshman in college at 18. After she finished school and found a full time marketing job, she found it difficult to continue to fit cheering into her schedule and announced her retirement earlier this month.

Although she retired at the end of the regular season, Lenz believes her time on the squad this year and as a veteran, entitles her to a spot on the field at the Super Bowl. She accuses the Ravens of not allowing her to cheer in retaliation for quitting.

"They've been really hard on me this year since I told them I was leaving," Lenz said. She received an email last week with the names of the 32 cheerleaders who would join the team in New Orleans. "I was the only three-plus year veteran that [is] not going. I immediately thought it was a mistake."

The Ravens say they had to choose a select number of the 60-member squad to cheer at the Super Bowl, and Lenz did not make the cut.
