Biden Praises Arab Spring on Same Day Egypt Dissolves Its Parliament

(CNSNews.com) - Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at a high school commencement ceremony in Virginia on Thursday, called the Arab Spring a “democratic movement”--on the same day that the Egyptian high court nullified the Islamist majority parliament and the Egyptian military assumed control of the legislature.

That Arab Spring was a good thing. So was kicking the Taliban out of Afghanistan. But both left a BIG mess because there was no effective follow-through.

I think the Arab spring is, was and will continue to be an unmitigated disaster for the west because one incompetent dumbass president is asleep at the switch.

Westerner's constantly forget that Middle Eastern and South Mediterranean cultures essentially structure in 5 levels. 1 Family, 2 Tribe, 3 Religion, 4 Community/Region, 5 National. Essentially, Religion comes in a strong 3rd and #5, National, comes in far last in the local pecking order. In these regions human life is still pretty inexpensive, highly devalued, and Bakeesh is King. The Arab Spring was a geopolitical disaster for many reasons, including paving the way for several Islamist regimes to rise to power. For example Russia is right in it's efforts to keep Assad in control of Syria. As bad as he is, he functions effectively and protects even the Christians and few Jews in Syria. If he is deposed, an Islamist regime will most likely step in and the eradications leap forward. Soon after Israel will be battered to the ropes and we will be in a brutal global conflict over regions and religion. That fight will be here, in Russia, elsewhere, and probably even western China. Was the Arab Spring such a wiggly jiggly success that gave the likes of Anderson Cooper such a throbbing vicarious thrill? The reality of it in the days after proved to be infinitely uglier.
