If you haven't already stumbled onto this site, it has a few good resources.

It would be worth a trip to Torrance to check out the expo. We're members of Arizona Families for Home Education, which hosts a similar event around the same time of year. The first time we went, it was a real eye-opener. My wife and I split up so we could catch more of the speakers and workshops. It turned out to be a life-saver for Teacher Dad who had no idea how to teach a left-brainer like my daughter. We also had a chance to peruse the expansive variety of curricula at length and make on-the-spot comparisons. Truly invaluable.

Mort is right on with the HSLDA. We have been homeschooling our 3 for over 12 years now. I know nothing about Cali's laws regarding homeschoolers. Two extremes are involved in the craft: the very good, loving parents and a few wackos. The weirdos capture the headlines and all are stereotyped as such.

Government schooling is a modern contrivance. It is hawked as good and better. It has inexorably evolved to indoctrinate and brainwash. I would be surprised if California would be comfortable with anything that runs counter to this scheme.
